Technical SEO

Technical SEO, checked the way a crawler sees it.

Before content can rank, a search engine has to reach it, read it and trust which version is the real one. SEO for Free walks your site like a crawler and reports every place that chain breaks.

Crawling and indexing

Every page is fetched as a crawler would fetch it, following redirects and recording what answered.

  • Status codes, redirect chains and loops
  • Canonical tags that point elsewhere, or nowhere
  • noindex in the page or the headers
  • Pages in your sitemap that redirect, fail or are not indexable
  • Pages linked from nowhere (orphans) and pages that link nowhere (dead ends)

Sitemaps and robots.txt

Your sitemaps are read in full and compared with what your pages really do. robots.txt is parsed rule by rule, so you see exactly which crawler is allowed where and why.

Speed on real phones

Where Google’s real-visitor data is available for your site, SEO for Free reports Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift and Interaction to Next Paint from it, and flags heavy pages, images and scripts. Real-visitor data needs a Google API key on the server; without one, that card says so instead of guessing.

The link map

Internal links decide where your site’s strength collects. The link map scores every page by the links pointing at it, shows how many clicks each sits from the home page, and lists the broken links with the page they are on.

Questions

What is a technical SEO audit?

A check of everything that decides whether search engines can crawl, index and trust your pages: status codes, redirects, canonicals, robots.txt, sitemaps, internal links and speed.

Can SEO for Free read sites built with JavaScript?

It detects pages drawn only by JavaScript and labels them, so you know when a crawler sees an empty shell. It does not yet render them in a browser.

How often should I run a technical audit?

After every release, and weekly otherwise. A connected site is read on a schedule, and the console shows what changed between reads.
