SEO for Free / Meta tags

Meta tags

The first thing searchers read is your title. Check it.

Your title and description are your advert on the results page, and your Open Graph tags are the card people see when your link is shared on WhatsApp. SEO for Free checks every one, across every page.

On every page

  • A title of the right length, unique across the site
  • A meta description that says why to click, not missing or duplicated
  • One clear H1 that agrees with the title
  • Open Graph title, description and image for WhatsApp, Facebook and LinkedIn
  • X (Twitter) card tags
  • The page language, the mobile viewport and hreflang for other languages

Duplicates, found across the site

A title used on twelve pages tells search engines none of them is special. The console groups pages that share a title or description so you can fix them together.

Rewritten, if you want

For any page, SEO for Free can propose a new title and description written from the page’s own content. Nothing goes live until you approve it.

Questions

How long should a meta title be?

Around 50 to 60 characters, or roughly 600 pixels, before Google shortens it. Put the words people search for near the start.

Why does WhatsApp show the wrong image for my link?

WhatsApp reads the og:image tag. If it is missing, too small or blocked, it picks something else or nothing. SEO for Free checks the tag and the image.

Does Google always use my meta description?

No, it sometimes writes its own from the page, but a good description is used far more often and improves clicks.
